Veteran Los Angeles Police Detective, Jack Kelly can't remember what life was like before becoming a detective, or the last time he saw his daughter, Allie. Occasionally he hears from her, she usually tries to scam him for money for drugs.One night while working the scene of a drug deal gone bad, Jack learns Allie has been hospitalized for a heroin overdose. He picks her up, takes her home, puts her to bed. He briefly stops by her squatter's hovel to clean it of anything she could come back to.The next morning, Jack's Lieutenant gives him the weekend off so he can take Allie to rehab, but insists Jack check out a crime scene on first. While working the scene, Jack catches Allie watching, mortified as he handles a corpse. Troubled, he leaves the scene and takes her to lunch. They make awkward conversation. Later, after being on the road for hours, Jack's car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. They're forced to spend the night in the woods. Around a campfire, he and Allie finally spend some time really talking for the first time since either can remember.Jack wakes the next morning to find Allie gone - but a needle and drugs are nearby. He finds her in the woods - she refuses to go back with him. He knows he has to let Allie go, but can he?
